Lochgilphead/Kilmartin Glen, Scotland

The area around the villages of Lochgilphead and Achnabreck in the Valley of the Kilmartin Glen is an archaeological treasure trove. In this area one can not only find Stone Circles and Dolmens, but also very interesting rock carvings. The carvings are known as 'rings and cups'. Not a lot of tourists are coming to the area, so you usually have this area to yourself. While other sites are better visited while the weather is nice, rock carvings are best seen when it's raining as the rain brings out flat carvings nicely.
